Two Brothers Bet to Help A Child

The excitement and the enthusiasm of the recent Scottish Rite 5K Race spawned a very interesting side bet between Ill. Brother David L. Sharkis 33°, Active for Connecticut (on the left above), and Ill. Brother Howard D. Turner MSA 33°, Commander-in-Chief of Connecticut Consistory, Valley of Norwich (on the right above).

Both brothers were very enthused by the race, and both noticed that neither were in the shape they were in when they were in shape, and that led to them making a bet to train and then run the race next year. In order to "put some skin in the game", they decided that the loser of the bet (i.e., whoever finishes second of the two) would have to sponsor a child at the Learning Center in the winner's name.

To sponsor a child at the Learning Center costs $5,000.

Since a bet that large is not child's play, everyone involved has decided to open the wager to sponsorship from other brothers. Thus, if you feel that Ill. Brother Turner might come up short, you could sponsor him (for any amount of money). If you feel that Ill. Brother Sharkis might come up short, you could sponsor him.

Please give this some thought, as this would be a wonderful way for another child to be able to learn to read. It would ensure that two of our brothers are in better shape, and would ensure that we can have some fun over the next year.

If you are interested in sponsoring either brother, please contact me (Frank Way) by using the email link on the officers page in the Consistory section.
